Recognizing the serious nature and market
opportunity surrounding the GPS reliability problem, Zach founded CrossRate in
2004. Today Zach leads a team at CrossRate which includes leaders in Position,
Navigation, and Time from Stanford University, University of Rhode Island, the
United States Coast Guard Academy, the University of Maine, the Federal Aviation
Administration, and Drexel University. A former U.S. Coast Guard officer Zach’s
last posting was at the Loran Support Unit as the Configuration Manager for the
North American Loran System. In this role he oversaw the testing, fielding and
support for all equipment and systems. Prior to this he served as a deck watch
officer onboard USCGC STEADFAST, a ship home ported in Astoria, OR. With a
patrol area encompassing the entire West Coast Zach was involved with search and
rescue, counter-narcotics, counter-terrorism, and fisheries law enforcement
operations. He earned his undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering from
the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and graduated with honors from the Drexel Executive
MBA program.
In addition to his work at CrossRate,
Zach also serves on the Board of Directors for the International Loran
Association. In this role Zach is currently working on organizing the joint
conference between the International Loran Association and the Royal Institute
of Navigation. Zach is also a working group leader on the Radio Technical
Commission Maritime (RTCM) Special Sub-Committee 127. This is the sub-committee
that is defining the receiver requirements for future eLoran receivers.
